About us

The Hideaways were a pop group that flourished in the mid-1960s as part of the Merseybeat era. They are recognised as playing The Cavern Club over 400 times, more frequently than any other band including The Beatles; (now and undisputed record). They are also noted for their connection to the Timex Watches advertising campaign of the time.  The band went through a few personnel changers over the years but can boast to be one of the few remaining Mersey bands to still perform with the original members (apart from our dear old pal John Shell).

The original line up from October 1963 includes; Ozzie Yue (guitar, vocals),  later to become an actor, Frankie Connor, now a BBC Radio Merseyside DJ, John D (Donaldson) drums now retired and travels the globe and John Shell, who would later die in the Vietnam War aged twenty.  Then there is Judd Lander  the Jester, who would later become a leading session man playing with Richard Ashcroft, Beach Boys, Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox , Kirsty Mc Call and a host of major artists. He put some Spice into the Spice Girls World Wide Number 1 ‘Say You’ll Be There’, provided harmonica line for Culture Club's number 1 hit "Karma Chameleon" and Church Of The Poisoned Mind and become Director of major record labels including Warner Brothers UK. Judd Lander now runs his own successful London entertainments company Lander PR . Fingers Finley, aka Chris Finley  (bass player)   joined the band in the late sixties after performing with the Masterminds, Gerry Marsden, The Mersey beats and Herman’s Hermits. Chris still tours with The Merseybeats  and is the mastermind of Liverpool Rocks which is held every year in Liverpool and features some great 60’s bands including Beryl Marsden a heart-throb of the 60’s Liverpool music scene – she left a lot of broken hearts when she joined Rod Stewart and Long John Balldry.
